THE occupancy rate for beds in the isolation, quarantine and treatment facilities of the Philippine National Police (PNP) for its men and women infected with Covid-19 is over 100 percent, a top official said on Friday.

LtGen. Joselito Vera Cruz, the PNP deputy chief for administration, said this could be attributed to the rising number of police being stricken with the virus.

“Actually, more on additional isolation facilities ang medyo problema ngayon (Actually, the problem now is on additional isolation facilities) because of the daily volume of new cases,” Vera Cruz said in a radio interview.

On Friday, the PNP recorded 548 new Covid-19 infections. This brings the total number of active cases to 3,766. The total number of policemen infected with Covid-19 is at 45, 028. Of this figure, 41,137 have recovered while 44 others were added to the list. The number of deaths due to the virus remains at 125.

Of the entire 225,333 PNP force, 216,290 or 95.99 percent have been fully inoculated. Some 7,737 or 3.43 percent have received one dose, while 1,306 or 0.58 percent have yet to get any shot. About 47,927 or 22.16 percent received their boosters.

Camp Crame has nine isolation, quarantine and treatment facilities, which carry a 560-bed capacity.

Vera Cruz said that based on the data from the PNP Health Service, the total bed capacity in their quarantine and treatment facilities in Camp Crame has exceeded the allotted number.

Presently, there are 561 or 100.18 percent who have been admitted to their facility. Of this number, 458 are PNP personnel, 71 non-uniformed personnel and 20 civilians (dependents).

Due to the high capacity rate, Vera Cruz admitted that they were having a hard time dealing with additional patients coming from their ranks.

Nevertheless, these policemen are assisted in seeking other facilities where they can be transferred.

“We can accommodate through room-sharing, especially if family or friends are willing to share. The others are transferred to other isolation facilities in the NCR (National Capital Region),” he said.

Vera Cruz said that is why they decided to open additional isolation, quarantine facilities in the regional police offices, especially those in the NCR Plus.

They have likewise coordinated with the local government units to accommodate their personnel in their respective facilities.

The National Capital Region Police Office has six quarantine and isolation facilities which have an 856-bed capacity, with 415 or 48.48 percent of the beds currently occupied.

The other regional police offices have 115 quarantine and isolation facilities that can accommodate personnel with their 1,438-bed capacity.

They are now awaiting the formal guidelines from the Department of Health on the shortened isolation period for those fully vaccinated or from 10 days to just seven or a week.
