NAVOTAS City Rep. John Reynald Tiangco has expressed his gratitude to President Rodrigo Duterte and Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go for their full support that paved the way for the modernization of the Navotas Fish Port Complex (NFPC), the country’s premier fish center and the largest in Southeast Asia.
Tiangco, interviewed by The Manila Times, said that his House Bill 875, which was passed and approved at the lower house, will improve and restore the 46-year-old NPFC.
He said the improvement, rehabilitation and modernization of the fish port complex shall be fully completed within five years.
“I am personally thanking President Duterte and Senator Go for their all-out support to my bill, which will be vital for the much-needed improvement, rehabilitation and modernization of the country’s premier port center,” Tiangco said.
Once fully restored, the Navotas lawmaker said the NPFC’s capacity and services will be largely improved as required by the Philippine fishing industry.
“In the long term, this will vastly benefit the economy and the people and promote the security and stability of the domestic food supply as well,” said Tiangco as he also lauded the leadership of Philippine Fisheries and Development Authority (PFDA) General Manager Glen Pangapalan for his effort that convinced the National Economic Development Authority to approve the complex’s modernization plan.
Serving as the implementing arm of the restoration project, the PFDA came out with the study and development plan which became the basis for the Navotas lawmaker’s bill that was unanimously approved by his colleagues.
